Hei Tiki is a taonga (treasure) and a symbol of cultural significance. While the exact origins are debated, Hei Tiki are generally associated with fertility, particularly the unborn embryo, and believed to carry the spirits of ancestors. Some theories suggest they represent Hina-Te-Iwaiwa, the Māori Moon Goddess, or Tiki, the first man in Māori mythology, also he is known as the cheeky Atua (God) of fun and mischief, who served IO the supreme Atua.
