Description

Dark Inanga jade, very translucent with a colourful display of greens, tones of yellow and black iron swirls. The Dark Inanga was source up the Wairau Awa (River) Tasman, New Zealand. The arc or long bend of this toki was created in replica of our ancestors mahi (work). In pre-European New Zealand, Duff type 1A toki (adze), typical of early East Polynesian tools, were used for a variety of woodworking tasks, including felling trees, hollowing out canoes (waka), and constructing houses and wharenui. They symbolise courage, determination, success, and bravery, and their significance is steeped in Māori tradition and meaning.
