Description

Inanga Pounamu, Nephrite Jade source up the Aniseed Valley, Tasman, New Zealand has tones of green and pearly white with chromite bleeding through the greenstone.
Porohita primarily means circle or in this case disc pendant carved shape. The porohita is a powerful symbol in Māori culture, representing the never-ending cycle of life, death, rebirth, and embodying the concepts of unity and wholeness.
This Porohita has four notches which may be personalized by the wearer as they can represent whanau (family), like parents or children or be used to commemorate significant events or achievements. The principle of kaitaikitanga (guardianship) can be understood in the relation to four domains of the natural world: the sky, the land, the sea and the underworld.
