Niho Pounamu

A striking Niho Pounamu, hand-carved from New Zealand nephrite jade sourced from the West Coast of Te Waipounamu, South Island, Aotearoa New Zealand.

This long, organic form follows the natural character of the stone, with beautiful layers of deep greens, olive tones and earthy golden-brown colouring running through the pounamu. The subtle variations and natural markings make this a truly individual piece, with the stone revealing more depth and character as the light moves across its polished surface.

The Niho form draws inspiration from the shape of a tooth and carries associations of strength, courage, protection and resilience. Its elongated, tactile form makes it a distinctive taonga to wear, while its natural colouring gives it a strong connection to the whenua from which the pounamu came.

Each piece of pounamu is unique, and this taonga celebrates the natural beauty of the stone rather than hiding it.
